Zurich is the largest city in Switzerland and its main commercial and cultural centre. It is situated north of the Alps at the end of Lake Zurich and in several surveys has been named as the city with the best quality of life in the world. Zurich has excellent transport connections including fast rail links to many major cities in Europe and an international airport only 10km from the centre of the city.
ICOODB 2009 will be held at ETH Zurich which is internationally recognised as one of the world's top technical universities. It was founded in 1855 by the Swiss Federal Government and is associated with many Nobel prize winners who either studied or worked at ETH Zurich. Ten of these prize winners were awarded the Nobel prize for Chemistry and ICOODB 2009 will take place in the centre of Zurich in the CAB Building that was formerly home to the Department of Chemistry and therefore where many of these eminent scientists studied or carried out their research.
